  • Nasal Cannula: Using a nasal cannula connected to the oxygen concentrator results in losing up to 99% of the oxygen produced due to the fact that the oxygen machine may produce 5-10 liters per minute, but you exhale approximately 2/3rds of the time and also breathe in ambient air, thus diluting the balance of oxygen and netting 1-2%.
  • 1-liter Reservoir Bag Mask: Using a 1-liter Reservoir Bag-Mask instead of a nasal cannula significantly increased the available oxygen up to 100 times.
  • Single-inlet EWOT Mask: Our single-inlet EWOT mask added a lot more volume but often felt restrictive, hindering deeper breathing and potentially limiting the benefits of EWOT.

What Happens When the Flow Volume is Low?

When an EWOT mask has low flow volume and does not permit deep, effortless, and unrestrained breathing, it is like trying to take a satisfying inhale through a drinking straw (an extreme example). This can lead to chest tension and will shortly result in reduced lung volume.
