Beat Work Stress the Right Way

Is work stress taking its toll on you? Read on to find out how you can manage your workplace stress effectively.

Beat Work Stress the Right Way

I should have started this write-up with the title "Beat Work Stress the Easy and Inexpensive way." But many of us feel that easy and inexpensive don't go hand in hand. We all smell something fishy if something is relatively cheap or low-cost and can't help asking, "So, what's the catch here?"

If I tell you that in the following few paragraphs, you will find a cheaper ( call it inexpensive, if you will!), easier, safer, faster, and nearly permanent solution to work-related stress, you should definitely ask me if there is a catch.

Not precisely, I'd say, but definitely a deal- I would want you to take this Free Breathing Test first. Let's get some insights into what's going on in your body when you breathe. But while you take time out of your busy and hectic work life and go through the breathing test, which will take a while and some earnest introspection, I want to simplify work stress for you.

Go ahead and set a reminder to take your free breathing test for when you really have a breather in your hectic routine. But, till then, read on and figure out how you can reduce the costly work stress by combining largely overlooked vital factors.

Why So Stressed?

Deadlines, office politics, peer pressure, demanding clients, indifferent co-workers, unsympathetic boss, long working hours, lack of recognition- what's not to stress about in a workplace?

We all have gone through some of the other work-related stress at some point in our lives. Some of us have been lucky enough to leave the rat race and find our mojo. But for most of us, work-life balance is just a delusion. As a result, we can't really figure out how we can stay ahead in our professional lives without compromising our inner peace and equilibrium.

Stress comes at a hefty price tag for any individual. It affects our personal, physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. It ruins careers, breaks families and homes, and sometimes could lead to life-threatening, even fatal consequences. Unfortunately, more and more people in the age group of 20-40 are finding themselves stuck in a rut. The vicious cycle of stress breeding more stress and resulting in poor performance is a reality for many young minds.

How to Manage Stress?

Stress can't be eliminated completely from our lives. In fact, stress is just a trigger for our survival hormones to kick in. The adrenaline that ensures fight or flight responses is our body's natural response to any kind of stressful situation that we face. Physical or mental stress both affect the body in some way. Workplace stress is often a by-product of several decisions and is not just dependent on our working conditions or the nature of our jobs.

How we live, our general health and fitness, our lifestyle choices, family, friends, and our social life all reflect our work and decisions in our career and professional life.

It is true that stress can't be eliminated. But, in my opinion, it shouldn't be eliminated entirely either! We all need some kind of push to stay put on our course of life. Without that motivation to be better, do better, and live better than yesterday, we might get too complacent in our endeavors leading to a dull, boring, and dreary life.

Stress Management at the Workplace

Most conventional stress management solutions are superficial in nature and don't cause a lasting internal transformation of the individual. When a person lacks a strong baseline experience of inner happiness and positive energy, he becomes too dependent on the external environment for psychological well-being. That is when prescription-drug-based corporate health-sick care comes into the picture. Anti-depressants, placebos, offsite exercises, and even a fat paycheck and a drool-worthy bonus fail to pull a workhorse out of stress if the person is not feeling happy and stress-free from within.

Over six decades ago, the corporate world started "paying" for medical expenses. It seemed like a deal-maker and a brilliant idea at the time. But what has occurred over the years is that the individual has practically abdicated their personal responsibility and let the "father/mother/guardian" image of the corporations "take care of them" instead.

The companies pay your medical bills - so why pay attention to your health?

The result?

Rising insurance costs, rampant obesity, and chronic illnesses are stemming from stress.

This corporate-employee relationship is unworkable and unaffordable in its present form. What starts as a stress-related ailment is also a lifestyle choice, which is primarily governed by the companies and organizations who stake their claim on our health by virtue of paying for treating our symptoms! No one is bothered to look deeper into the causes that are the consequence of work-related stress. But everyone is ready to pay more money betting on your ability to bounce back, thanks to heavy medications and sophisticated treatments thrown at you as compensation.

So Who is Really Gaining Here?

The pharmaceutical industry for sure is in for a windfall. The power of corporate "parents" providing healthcare to its employees which entails due diligence, clinical studies, and seemingly harmless side effects to take care of the health care, which should actually be renamed as sick care in the first place.

Stress and Your Immune System

Our immune system and our stress-coping skills are interrelated. According to the Trimbos Institute in the Netherlands, acute stress (sudden, short-lived) temporarily improves our immune system. But chronic stress (long term) decreases the effectiveness of our immune system. They point out that depression is particularly detrimental to our immune system.

Chronic stress occurs when problems outweigh our coping skills. Therefore, stress reduction and coping skills may need to be an integral part of one's agenda, especially with today's increasing appearance of adolescent depression.

When you feel good and in control of yourself and your life, you transfer that energy to your life, work, and workforce. The results are more personal and work satisfaction, improved performance, reduced workdays lost due to personal illness, less desire to change jobs, or less stress when one does.

Acronyms like JOB that stood for "Just Over Broke", now stand for the "Joy Of Being."

The Optimal Breathing Self Mastery Kit will consciously show how easy it is to make oneself feel good and have lots of extra energy, a second wind even when they thought they were exhausted. One's life force is one's primary energy reserve. The least energy we expend attaining that reserve is often the most efficient means of going that extra mile. Optimal Breathing replaces many stress-inducing exercise regimens and shows chronic over-trainers an exercise style that strengthens and conditions rather than stresses.

Cost Comparisons of Optimal Breathing

Biofeedback can be very effectively used to establish a baseline, track progress, and refine inner sensing abilities on an as-needed or wanted and affordable basis. Many Optimal Breathing techniques and breathing exercises can be delivered from 1 to 100,000 simultaneously—a significantly reduced cost over Transcendental Meditation (TM) and biofeedback.

Business, education, and government utilization of simple stress management and personal development skills will foster the opening up of feelings of caring and motivation for self-advancement due to improved self-image, a sense of happiness, and being supported by one's inner self, a healthier body-mind. Bottom line? More satisfied trainers, useful managers, contented employees, and responsible citizens. The foundation for all of this is the intention, a little quiet time, and simple breathing development.

Whether or not you are sick and if you want to maximize your energy in the most efficient, effective, and inexpensive way possible, here is my list of priorities that should be yours too:
